Aldinga wave pool approved

A tourism development that includes a surfing wave pool was approved by Onkaparinga’sindependent Council Assessment Panel at its meeting on 2 May.

The resort is set to be built on cropping land at Lot 3 Tuit Road, Aldinga, next to the Port Willunga Tourist Park.

It will include 35 tourist accommodation units, plus a ticketing booth, shop, rental area, café, restaurant, taphouse, surf school and wellness studio.

The surf lagoon will generate 2.1 metre high waves up to every 12 seconds with facilities including beach cabanas, a pool and boardwalk/jetty.

The tourist accommodation and surf lagoon will only be accessible to paying guests, but the public will be invited to watch the surfing.

Its location is around 1.3 kilometres north of the township of Port Willunga and around 1.6 kilometres south of Maslin Beach in a designated Tourism Development Zone.

The surf lagoon will be open during daylight hours, while the Beach Club café and the taphouse will operate from 7am to 11pm.

Stage one of the development will include the surf lagoon, changerooms and admin buildings, while the taphouse, wellness centre and tourist accommodation will follow in Stage two.
