An Aldinga road will get an almost $4 million upgrade, secured with funding from the federal Safer Local Roads and Infrastructure Program.
A $1.898 million federal grant will go towards design and reconstruction of Norman Road, in Aldinga Beach.
City of Onkaparinga Mayor Moira Were says the project will address significant pavement and seal defects, including shape deformation, potholes and edge breaks.
“We’ll be reconstructing Norman Road from Main South Road through to a large culvert located at 145 Norman Road, with works also including shoulder sealing from the culvert through to Acacia Terrace.
“The project will widen the road surface to a consistent, safe width of 9.5 metres, including 1.5 metre sealed shoulders.
“The works will prevent further deterioration of the pavement and ensure the road remains fit for purpose.”
Mayor Were says the funding agreement requires the council to contribute at least 50 per cent towards the overall costs.
“We’ve also been successful in working with SA Water on this project, and they’re about to upgrade their water main along Norman Road before our roadworks begin.
“Applying for funding through these kinds of programs helps us to deliver better outcomes for ratepayers, and supports our Community Vision and state and federal strategies to improve road safety.”
The project is scheduled for completion in 2026–27.
