Kuitpo Forest is located on Kaurna and Peramangk Country, near Meadows in the Mount Lofty Ranges.
Established in 1898, it was the first of a number of forest plantations in the area established to ensure a sustainable timber resource for South Australia.
Today, the Kuitpo Forest Reserve covers an area of 3,600 hectares, of which 60% (2,100ha) is plantation, and is home to our Head Office and Visitor Information Centre.
Located within ForestrySA’s broader Mount Lofty Ranges forest estate, Kuitpo Forest Reserve is modelled as a community forest. It is managed for sustainable commercial forestry, while providing for the conservation of native flora and fauna and community use for recreation.
Kuitpo’s proximity to Adelaide – just an hour’s drive from the city – also makes it a popular place to visit.
Hundreds of thousands of visitors come to camp and enjoy hut-style accommodation, bushwalk, horse ride, mountain bike and take part in a host of organised community events each year.
