The 2021 Strathalbyn Show has been cancelled. 

The show’s committee posted the following statement late last night:

 “After much deliberation the Strathalbyn Show Committee wishes to announce the sad and devastating news that we have cancelled the 2021 show.”

“A very hard decision as the committee know how much the community want the show back after the 2020 cancellation.”

“Our reasons being the concern of the capping of the show crowd as we were expecting a huge crowd to attend this year, a number that would exceed the cap we were allowed by SA Health and we would have to turn people away.

“By allowing a smaller crowd to attend there is the concern of the Show running at a loss, as the expenses are still the same regardless.

“We were going to put on a special 150^th Show which would have been restricted under the current regulations.

“With the current COVID hotspots in SA, we felt that we want to protect our community and don’t want to be held responsible for being a hotspot in the case of an outbreak here.

“This year the Horses In Action, Garden Competition and Association Rich Fruit Cake and Genoa Cake Semi Finals will still go ahead.

“The committee are now focusing on 2022 to hold “the best show ever” to once again showcase to our community the best of what Strathalbyn has to offer and to hold a great 150^th show.

“We thank all our members, patrons, sponsors, convenors, exhibitors and supporters for your past support and for your understanding and just like the committee, we ask you to focus on next year.

“Surely it has to be better than 2020 and 2021.”

“Thank you from the Committee and see you in 2022 at the Strathalbyn Show on Monday October 3^rd.”

The move follows the cancellation of the Royal Adelaide Show and the Port Elliot Show.
