McLaren Vale Business & Tourism Association has passed on an invitation from the RSL to join its alternative ANZAC day commemoration tomorrow, Saturday 25 April.
The invitation says that due to cancellation of formal ANZAC commemorations nationally the RSL is promoting Light Up The Dawn activities.
“This encourages Australians to commemorate from their homes, driveways and balconies to show individual but united remembrance of sacrifice and service because ANZAC Day belongs to the people.
“The concept has come about from a public and RSL groundswell on mainstream and social media.
Mayo MP Rebekha Sharkie has wholeheartedly supported the move.
“ANZAC Day will be very different this year but as a community we have proven to be extremely resilient and I believe we can make this special day of remembrance just as respectful and meaningful as events run in previous years.
“This coming Saturday (April 25) at 5.55am I will be joining my neighbours and other neighbourhoods around the country in holding a household vigil at the end of my driveway.“
Rebekha has supported several of her local RSL sub-branches in providing a message for their ANZAC family booklet for the driveway vigil. The booklet is available on her website.
“Even though there's no egg and bacon breakfast to share in this year, if you can spare a few dollars for the RSL Poppy Appeal, please consider donating.”
