South Australians have been applauded for showing up at Covid-19 testing stations in their thousands over the past few days, however according to the SA Premier: "We are not out of the woods yet".

Former Goolwa woman Kelly Robinson was one of the many South Australians caught up in long queues at local testing centres since SA Health announced the latest Covid outbreak and renewed the push for people to get tested.

"This whole thing is a nightmare!" Kelly says.

Kelly, who lives in the northern suburbs and works at Prospect, was told that due to visiting ‘hot spots’ and showing some light symptoms she would need a clear test before returning to work.

On Monday 16 November, she went straight from work at lunch time to the Hampstead drive-in clinic, only to wait for three hours and then get turned away.

Yesterday (Tuesday) morning, she arrived at the Gawler Clinic at 7.30am and there were about 20 people in front of her.

Kelly was tested by 9am, "but by that stage the line was hundreds long!" she says.

"I’m glad it’s over but feel for others."

Kelly was told results could take up to three days to come through, so she wasn't sure if her plans to go to Clare for the weekend would be able to happen.

Locally on the Fleurieu, the Aldinga testing clinic has been inundated this week with some patients being turned away yesterday.

In a press conference yesterday afternoon, Premier Steven Marshall said, "I said yesterday [Monday] that we were facing our biggest challenge to date and we can and we must rise to the challenge, and this is precisely what South Australia has done."

"We had more than 5000 people that were tested yesterday [Monday]," the Premier said.

"Today [Tuesday] we are on track for 6000.

"This is nothing short of sensational and will be a record for South Australia.

"So my heartfelt thanks to every South Australian who has heeded the call to get themselves tested and we are very, very, grateful for that."

However, Steven Marshall was quick to point out that "we are not out of the woods yet", advising South Australians to follow the latest health advice and pay heed to the restrictions.

For those who are struggling to get tested, there may be relief in sight.

According to a SA Health statement issued yesterday (Tuesday), "We’re working hard to extend operating hours and capacity at our COVID testing sites".

"If you were unable to get tested today but you have symptoms, please visit a testing site tomorrow," the statement said.

"More than 595,000 tests have been undertaken overall.

"For a list of sites visit www.sahealth.sa.gov.au/covidtesting."

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has reached out to South Australians via his Facebook page, echoing the Premier's sentiments.

"Thank you to all South Australians who have turned up to get tested for #COVID19 after the recent outbreak in the state," the Prime Minister's post said.

"It’s important we get on top of this outbreak quickly and the South Australian Government is working hard to do that, with the full support of the Commonwealth."
