Southern Football League Women’s - Round 14


Top of the ladder Aldinga defeated Flagstaff Hill by 53 points in SFLW round 14 action to rack up their ninth win in a row and avenge their round five loss to the Falcons, which is the Sharks’ only loss for the season. Aldinga led by just five points at quarter time but took over after the first change to lead by 21 points at half-time and 46 points at the final change. Flagstaff Hill failed to score in the first three quarters but they finally hit the scoreboard in the last quarter but in the end Aldinga were victorious 8.12 (60) to 1.1 (7). Cassandra Yerasimou kicked four goals to take her tally to 34 for the season. She was ably supported by Jasmine Smith who slotted three majors. Madison Russell, Sophia Flanagan-Sjoberg and Jasmine Smith were best for the Sharks while Hannah Griffin, Alana Baker and Riley Mitchell battled valiantly for Flagstaff Hill.


Reigning premier Cove has kept their premiership defense alive with an important 33-point victory at Reynella. The victory keeps the Cobras in fourth spot on the ladder with two rounds remaining. Cove kept Reynella goal-less, increasing their lead at every change before winning 5.6 (36) to 0.3 (3). Best for Cove were Samantha Franson, Jaime Norup and Felicity Oliver. For Reynella Lauren Fisher, Olivia Gallio and Shawna Bradshaw tried hard.


Morphett Vale consolidated second place on the ladder after an easy win over Hackham 5.12 (42) to 0.0 (0). The Emus led by six points at quarter time, 24 points at half-time and 31 points at the final change before winning by 42 points. Brooke O’Brien and Kate Dunn each kicked two goals for Morphett Vale with O’Brien also named best on ground for the Emus. Caitlin Ross was named best for the Hawks along with Chelsea Deeth and Heidi Condon.
