South coast surfers have reported health concerns after using Waitpinga Beach, stoking fears of a serious pollution problem.
Anthony Rowland told ABC Radio on Monday 17 March that many beachgoers had experienced a cough, sore throat, sore eyes and even blurred vision on the weekend and some were still feeling unwell.
He says they have informed National Parks and PIRSA and he has been collecting water samples.
"Never in 40 years of being in the ocean have I experienced these symptoms with everyone around me at the same time. It looks to be algae related due to water temperature but who knows at this point?
Reports of many dead fish and sea creatures, including leafy sea dragons, washing up on south coast beaches have also been published on Facebook, with claims of an algal bloom stretching from Parsons beach through to Encounter Bay.
The EPA has yet to issue any alerts or safety information about south coast beaches, despite reports of copious amounts of sea foam suspected to have triggered the health issues.
