The next round of community forums on the algal bloom starts next week, with four scheduled in the Fleurieu region over the next month.
The first will be held in Port Noarlunga on Monday 22 September at the Port Noarlunga Football Club from 6.30pm to 8pm. This is timely with the local beach currently inundated with toxic foam.
Department for Environment and Water (DEW) is running the forums to help keep communities informed about the marine disaster that has been affecting the state's beaches since March.
They will provide updates on the response and recovery efforts, including the latest science, public health advice, and support measures for affected communities and industries.
Each forum will feature expert presentations on algal bloom science, public health advice and safety, and include an expert panel Q&A.
Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development Clare Scriven, SA Health's David Cunliffe, and SARDI’s Professor Mike Steer will be among the speakers.
There will be opportunities for the community to share insights and ask questions.
The other Fleurieu forums will be held at Aldinga Football Club on Monday 13 October at 6pm; Normanville Surf Lifesaving Club on Monday 20 October at 6pm; and Centenary Hall, Goolwa, on Thursday 23 October at 6pm.
Forums are free and open to the public, but registration is essential via Humanitix. Find more details of the algal bloom response on the dedicated state government website.
Meanwhile the The Coast is Calling voucher ballot has opened today, 19 September and closes Monday 22 September.
South Australian residents aged 18 and over can enter the ballot for a chance to win vouchers to the value of $100, $200, and $500 to help support coastal businesses and communities around the state that have been affected by the algal bloom.
The ballot will be drawn on Tuesday 23 September, with voucher winners able to book immediately upon receiving their voucher code to travel from Wednesday 24 September until 30 November 2025.
