The latest street library on the Fleurieu has been installed at 7 Port Elliot Road in Port Elliot.
Built by the Victor Harbor Men’s Shed and sponsored by Shore Window Cleaning, the library is now full of donated books for children and adults to borrow.
Street libraries are small homes for books that people place in an accessible place at the front of their home or businesses.
People from the community can take a book from the little library and read it and return it or donate another book in its place.
The Street Library organisation describes the libraries as a symbol of trust and hope and “a tiny vestibule of literary happiness”.
There are currently 144 street libraries registered in South Australia.
Other street libraries on the Fleurieu are located at the Cape Jervis, Inman Valley and Second Valley general stores, in Finniss Vale Drive in Second Valley, Main Street in Normanville and in Oriana Drive in Sellicks Beach.
