An event on Kangaroo Island will raise awareness and funds for the endangered Glossy Black Cockatoo, with the help of some huge name performers.

Archie Roach AM will headline the KI Wildlife Carnival, to be held at Cygnet River Farm on Saturday 11 January. Archie is an Australian musical icon with a lifetime of stories to tell, as a stolen child, teenage alcoholic, father, husband, social advocate and First Nations leader.

He will be joined by one of Australia’s most respected jazz pianists, composer and arranger Paul Grabowsky AO.

Together, they will perform their new album, Tell Me Why, described as, “a compelling account of resilience and the strength of spirit to overcome trauma whilst searching for a sense of belonging, with a great love story at the centre.”

Their music will be supplemented by an exciting lineup of mainland and local musicians. The event will also feature a panel discussion with global experts in wildlife protection, a maker’s market showcasing some of the Island’s best artisans and the opportunity to consume the finest Kangaroo Island food and beverages.

A silent charity auction will feature items and experiences donated by many local businesses and artists, with all funds raised going toward recovery efforts for the Glossy Black Cockatoo.

All funds raised from the sale of food, beverages and wine glasses go to the Kangaroo Island Wildlife Network and their ongoing education programs, including road safety brochures, now printed in multiple languages.

Children aged up to 15 may attend free of charge with a paying adult.

Adult tickets (ages 16+) cost $75 per person.

If you’re looking for a more luxurious experience, VIP tickets for $200 each will get you a seat in a private marquee, with a bar featuring Islander Estate Vineyards wine, Kangaroo Island Spirits gin and beer KI Brewery beer. VIPs can also savour a gourmet hamper of local produce, primarily sourced from Kangaroo Island.

Gates open at 3pm, with the Welcome to Country at 3.20pm.

The event is plastic free, with patrons asked to take their own plate, cutlery and refillable water bottle. The event is also smoke free.

Cygnet Creek Farm is located at 78 Gum Creek Rd, Cygnet River.
