Police have arrested a man following a suspicious fire that destroyed a Christie Downs unit last month.

About 11.30pm on Thursday 24 February, police and emergency services were called to Rufus Crescent at Christie Downs after reports of flames coming from a unit.

Fire crews worked hard to control the blaze however the vacant unit was destroyed.

Police fire techs attended the scene and deemed the fire to be suspicious, however the cause was undetermined.

Following an investigation, detectives attended an address in Port Pirie and arrested a 27-year-old man of no fixed address and charged him with arson.  He appeared in the Port Pirie Magistrates Court and has since been remanded in custody to appear in Adelaide Magistrates Court on 27 June.
