Citizenship awards and ceremonies will be the order of the day on Thursday 26 January across the Fleurieu and on Kangaroo Island, with a program of free events.
Alexandrina Council
Official ceremonies will be held in Strathalbyn at 9am and in Goolwa at 11am.
The Strathalbyn event will be an outdoor picnic held in Soldiers Memorial Gardens, starting from 7.30am with music from the Strathalbyn and District Concert Band.
All are welcome to take chairs and picnic rugs; breakfast cooked by with the Rotary Club of Strathalbyn will be available for purchase.
Centenary Hall will host the Goolwa event, with the Goolwa Band playing on arrival.
Kangaroo Island Council
The ceremony will be held at Hope Cottage Museum from 10am to 11am.
City of Onkaparinga
Free breakfasts will be offered from 8am until 11am at three locations: Noarlunga Centre – Ramsay Place; Willunga – The Old Court House; and Happy Valley Sports Park.
There will be entertainment as well as activities for the children; take a picnic rug or chair.
An Australia Day Bush Fair and fireworks will be held at South Adelaide Football Club from 5.15-9.15pm.
There will be free entertainment and kids’ activities, with an array of foods from various cultures available, or people can take their own picnics.
City of Victor Harbor
The community is invited to the Soldiers Memorial Gardens on Flinders Parade for a free barbecue breakfast from 8am.
The formal ceremony will start at 9am with a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony by Cedric Varcoe, followed by entertainment from the Victor Harbor City Band.
District Council of Yankalilla
The Village Green in Normanville will host the Australia Day ceremonies from 9am.
This will be followed by Gig On The Green, an afternoon of free live music with barbecue and bar facilities available from 12-4pm.
