Sunday 26 January will see people all over the Fleurieu celebrate Australia Day in their own ways.
Each council in the region hosts formal ceremonies and informal celebrations to which all are welcome.
Alexandrina Council celebrates Australia Day across the region with Citizen of the Year and citizenship ceremonies in Goolwa and Strathalbyn.
Strathalbyn hosts a community breakfast in Soldiers Memorial Gardens. Everyone is welcome to take along chairs and rugs to create an informal picnic atmosphere.
Breakfast will be available for purchase from 7.30am, with formalities starting at 9am.
In Goolwa breakfast will available for purchase at the Goolwa Bowling Club from 8am. The awards and citizenship ceremonies will be held in Centenary Hall from 11am.
Celebrate Australia Day at the City of Onkaparinga’s Australia Day Bush Fair at South Adelaide Football Club, from 5.30 to 9.30pm
Families will love this event, with free family-focused activities and a huge entertainment line-up, including roving children’s acts, live music and Aussie displays.
Pack a picnic or explore a variety of stalls offering delicious food and refreshments, with wares and novelties to purchase.
Finish the night off with a spectacular fireworks display synchronised to music.
Please note that entry to this event is by gold coin. Alcohol, pets and smoking are not permitted.
The South Adelaide Football Club is at 1 Lovelock Drive, Noarlunga Downs,
Warland Reserve will be the focus of the City of Victor Harbor celebrations, starting from 8am with a free breakfast barbecue, followed by the Citizen of the Year awards and a citizenship ceremony.
The Spokes Lounge, celebrating the concurrent Tour Down Under with live music, local food wine and beer, will be open from 11am to 4pm.
Yankalilla and District Council celebrations take place at Bungala Park, Normanville, starting at 9am. Australia Day Ambassador Dr Bob Irving will speak before Mayor Glen Rowlands presents the Australia Day awards.
The Citizen of the Year is Larissa Berry; the Young Citizen of the Year is Daniel Schubert; and the award for Community Event of the Year goes to Melissa Andrews for her markets. The ceremony will be followed by the traditional Yankalilla Lions Club sausage sizzle, with tea, coffee and free face painting.
