Two building projects on the Fleurieu Peninsula have been recognised by the Master Builders Association SA.
A project to replace a home at Encounter Bay destroyed by fire in 2015 has won Victor Harbor-based builder South Coast Constructions the MBA’s state award for Excellence in a Contract Home $350,000-$500,000. The home on Tabernacle Road was completed last year.
After years of negotiations with insurance companies, including contracts with other builders, the owners were thrilled that South Coast Constructions was able to create a dream home and end their heartache and stress to replace their first home.
MBA judges said South Coast Constructions had, “delivered a simple design, working within a tight budget, yet at the same time, produced a high quality finish to all areas of the home resulting in a very happy builder/client outcome.”
South Coast Constructions’ director Jamie Knott says the company was thrilled with the award for a project that had helped end years of pain for their clients.
“Building a home can be a stressful process, let alone having to cope with the fact your previous house burned down and the red tape and negotiations involved in trying to get a replacement built," he says.
“It was very satisfying to work with these clients to deliver a home that went much further than a simple replication of their previous house.
“The result was a home that remained on the same footprint, but with a more modern floor plan that was more efficient and practical.”
Jamie paid tribute to the staff and trades who make up the South Coast Constructions team.
“All of our team, whether staff or tradies, work closely with clients to achieve the home they want.”
“Many of our team have been with us for many of our 30-plus years in the building trade, so it’s great to see them receive accolades like this award.”
South Coast Constructions has taken out MBA award categories in five of the past six years, including being named Residential Builder of the Year in 2016.

The other Fleurieu project recognised was a home at Port Willunga featuring stonework and extensive timber elements, completed by Adelaide-based company Urban Habitats Australia. The MBA judges praised the company for its "impeccable work" on the project, which was especially challenging because of the complexity of materials used. Urban Habitats Australia were awarded the gong for Excellence in a Contract Home over $2 million.
The awards were presented at the Adelaide Convention Centre on Friday, August 16.
