Premier Steven Marshall has appointed Finniss MP David Basham to his cabinet, naming him as Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development.
The cabinet reshuffle was triggered by the resignation of three ministers caught up in a scandal about inappropriate claims for expenses.
It was uncovered by an ABC investigation into former President of the Legislative Council Terry Stephens’ claim for a country MP accommodation allowance for his Victor Harbor property.
Following release of information on claims over the last 10 years, several Liberal MPs have voluntarily repaid many thousands of dollars despite saying they were entitled to the allowance.
State Parliament has since launched an investigation into the matter.
Mr Marshall says his new team blends critical experience and stability in key portfolio areas.
“My new cabinet brings together a wealth of experience and expertise in key portfolio areas, with some incredibly talented new Ministers who will add fresh energy, enthusiasm and skills to their roles.
The Finniss electorate covers the southern Fleurieu Peninsula, including Goolwa, Port Elliot, Mount Compass and Victor Harbor.
Dairy farmer David Basham was elected at the 2018 state election, replacing retiring MP Michael Pengilly.
He joins Speaker of the Lower House Vincent Tarzia and MP for Morphett Stephen Patterson in the refreshed cabinet.
