Port Elliot made light work of their elimination final in the Great Southern Cricket Association (GSCA) with a comprehensive eight-wicket win against Myponga-Sellicks at Victor Harbor on the weekend. The Mudlarks were bowled out in the 38th over for just 75 with skipper Sean Haverty top scoring with 18 (41 balls). Liam Harris (3/12), Simon Donaldson (3/18) and Ben Griffiths (3/26) did the damage with the ball for the Bloods. After losing two early wickets, Joel Harris (31 not out) and Ethan Spriggs (21 not out) saw their side to victory in the 22nd over. Vinnie Nizzola (2/29) took both wickets for Myponga-Sellicks. Port Elliot will now take on Goolwa in a semi-final at Encounter Bay this Saturday and Sunday.
Reigning premiers Encounter Bay also cruised through to the second week of finals after defeating Yankalilla by eight wickets at Encounter Bay. Yankalilla batted first and were in all sorts of trouble early as they slumped to 3/8 inside the first four overs. Tigers skipper Luke Bartlett tried to resurrect the innings as he battled his way to a patient 65 from 175 balls (5 x 4’s), before his side were ultimately bowled out for 115. Luke Crichton (3/9), Chris Butler (3/15) and Kieran Garrett (2/32) were the leading wicket takers for the Bays. Encounter Bay had 10 overs to bat at the end of day one and they got to stumps at 0/21, before Butler (43), David Schulze (35) and Sam Hoffmann (27 not out) got their side over the line in the 20th over of day two. Aaron Smith (1/15) and Chris Clark (1/32) were the wicket takers for Yankalilla. Encounter Bay will now face minor premier Noarlunga at Victor Harbor for the right to play in the 2024/25 Grand Final.
