Encounter Bay won their fourth game in a row to consolidate their spot in the top-five after a comfortable 62-point win against Langhorne Creek during round seven action in the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) at Encounter Bay yesterday. The Bays led by 27 points at halftime, before kicking a further seven goals to two in the second half to win 13.10 (88) to 4.2 (26). Best players for Encounter Bay included James Brown, Ryan Pearsons (4 goals), Marcus Lippett, Ben Davis (4 goals), Hamish Tonkin and Callum Tonkin. Best for the Hawks were Jackson Dalitz, Tom Derham, Caleb Howell, Cade Murgatroyd, Seth Hartland and Harry Cates.
Reigning premier Myponga-Sellicks got back on the winners list with a 63-point win against Goolwa/Port Elliot at Goolwa yesterday. Goolwa/Port Elliot started well to lead by 11 points at quarter time, but after the first break it was all the Mudlarks. The visitors kicked 13 goals to three in the final three quarters to win 15.22 (112) to 6.13 (49). Jayden Scott and Darren Shillabeer kicked three goals each for Myponga-Sellicks, while Bailey Payne kicked two goals for the Magpies. Best players for the Mudlarks included Mitchell Wilkins, Scott Ogilvie, Anthony Kempster, Jack Cooper, Hayden Sampson and Scott. Goolwa/Port Elliot was best served by Jye Bottroff, Riley Davis, Levi Baillie, Kaiden Wilton, Jesse Bates and Carter Norman.
Victor Harbor are still undefeated after a dour 29-point win over Strathalbyn. At three-quarter time, an upset was a possibility as winless ‘Strath’ trailed by just two points. ‘Victor’ steadied in the final term, kicking five goals to one, to win 9.10 (64) to 4.11 (35). Daniel Stock, Sam Basham and Jackson Elmes all kicked two goals for the Roos, while Jack Gilbert slotted three majors for the Roosters. Rhys Bartram, Dylan Kleinig, Matthew Wiese, Zachary Dowling, Xavier Mayes and Lachlan Hartshorne were named best for Victor Harbor, while best players for Strathalbyn included Max Fergusson, Daniel Pegler, Declan Gladigau, James Scott, Fletcher Duffield and Gilbert.
McLaren Districts consolidated their spot in the top-three with a convincing 102-point win at Yankalilla. The Tigers started well to lead by six points at quarter time, but from that moment on the Eagles kicked 18 goals to one to win 20.13 (133) to 4.7 (31). Josh Vandermeer kicked five goals for McLaren Districts (20 in the past three games), while Karlson Kantilla kicked two goals for ‘Yank’. Matthew Merrett, Daniel Marr, Jackson Daniels, Luke Mitton, Codey Ellison and Brett Ellis were named best for the Eagles. Best players for Yankalilla included Bailey Gaskin, Lachlan Whittlesea, Ayden Duke, Kantilla, Jack Fitzgerald and Jesse Fitzgerald.
Willunga won their fourth game on the trot with a 21-point home win against Mt Compass yesterday. The Demons led at every change before winning 11.9 (75) to 8.6 (54). Dylan Draper continued his excellent start to the season with five goals in a best-on-ground performance for Willunga, and he was ably supported by Cameron McDonald, Jake Renney, Nicholas Scanlan, Scott Brown and Tyson Schmid. Best players for the Bulldogs included Lochie Nash, Klaus Simons, William Zimmermann, Nathan Hicks, Hugh Daniell and Brandon Mckenzie, while Tom Pinyon kicked three goals.
