The City of Onkaparinga is offering community groups the opportunity to generate income over summer by collecting beach ramp fees.
The four Onkaparinga beaches where vehicle access is allowed are Moana, Aldinga, Silver Sands and Sellicks.
It’s permitted on Moana, Aldinga, Silver Sands and Sellicks beaches between the hours of 5.30am and 11.59pm, but Aldinga Beach south of the access ramp is closed from 1 May to 30 September each year.
Residents are entitled to free seasonal beach permits, available from council offices, libraries and the McLaren Vale and Fleurieu Coast Visitor Centre from November each year, and must show them to access the beach.
Visitors must pay a ramp access fee of $8, which can be paid by cash or card.
Ramps are attended by volunteers on most weekends, public holidays or when the temperature at Noarlunga is forecast to be above 25°C.
Applications are now open for local community and sporting groups to collect ramp fees; they retain 50 per cent of the fees collected.
There are two roster arrangements: weekends from 9 December to 3 March and weekdays from 11 December to 26 January, both from 10am to 5pm.
Twelve groups were involved as ramp monitors last summer, raising funds and promoting their activities.
Groups interested in getting involved this summer have until 24 September to apply online.
They must be located in the City of Onkaparinga, be not for profit or incorporated, and must have appropriate public liability insurance.
