For music lovers there is little more exciting than the powerful and beautiful sound of a massed choir.

Big Sing McLaren Vale provides a platform for choristers to join a massed choir to sing the best loved classical choral works with a symphony orchestra and professional soloists.

March is the month for singers to sign up for the next Big Sing event, which will take place in September at McLaren Vale and the Adelaide Festival Theatre.

Big Sing has joined forces with the Adelaide Youth Orchestra and the Adelaide Philharmonia Chorus to present Verdi’s Requiem.

The team behind the successful McLaren Region Community Carols created Big Sing in 2017.

The first event featured Mozart’s Requiem, with a choir of 120 and an orchestra of 25.

In 2018 a choir of 200 led by the Elder Conservatorium Chorale and the 50-piece Elder Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra performed the Fauré Requiem.

The program also included a Gospel Choir of 60, operatic solos, items by the Chorale and a short flute concerto.

In 2019, a choir of over 200 performed Mendelssohn’s Elijah with the Norwood Symphony Orchestra and the Adelaide Harmony Choir.

Big Sing’s Julie Morgan says the performance is a special experience.

‘What really drives us in organising Big Sing is the smiles on the faces of everybody in the Chorus when they get a huge buzz out of singing a major choral piece with a live orchestra. It’s a rare thing!’

Tickets for the 2020 McLaren Vale performance will go on sale in April.

Full details of registration, tickets and performances are on the Big Sing website.
