The Black Tie and Boardies ball will return to Middleton Pioneer Community Hall for a second consecutive year on January 22.

The inaugural 2020 event, organised by Jenifer Watts and a crew of volunteers, had more than 260 people in attendance, and raised $43,000 for victims of the Kangaroo Island bushfires.

“It was a really good community night, and a lot of people banded together to make it happen,” Jen says.

“When people asked if we were planning to do it again, I decided we would, but this time we’d raise money for an organisation a bit closer to home.”

This year’s selected cause is the Fleurieu Cancer Support Foundation, which Jen volunteers with about once a month.

“The foundation doesn’t receive any government assistance, but maintains three vehicles, driving Fleurieu cancer patients to and from Adelaide for treatment Monday to Friday each week,” she says.

“The group does such an amazing job for local cancer sufferers and their families. It’s run by volunteers, the drivers are volunteers and the people it supports are incredibly grateful it exists. 

“We’re hoping to put at least $10,000 into their bank account through this event.”

Tickets are $50 each and the committee is currently looking for donations for silent auction prizes and other items, in order to make the ‘burger and pav night’ a zero cost event.

“Middleton has a great community which extends far and wide on the south coast and we hope people come along, have a great night, and raise lots of money all for a good cause,” Jen says.

Black Tie and Boardies will run from 7pm to midnight on January 22, the Friday of the Australia Day long weekend.
