The Wirrina Bluegrass and Acoustic Roots Festival is an annual gathering for people to hear, play and share acoustic music from the bluegrass, ‘old timey’ and other related traditions.
The 2019 festival runs from 22-24 November, featuring world-class musicians who will perform, run workshops, and join in the fun and inspiration of all that makes up a Wirrina festival.
It all kicks off at 5pm on Friday 22 November with Slim Dime and the Prairie Kings bringing their energetic old timey swing. Stay in the marquee throughout the evening for a wonderful selection of performers in the festival’s acoustic roots concert and stay on for Andrew Clermont’s Supper Club.
Saturday morning gets going with some excellent workshops to attend. Throughout the day there will be led-sessions under the verandah, performances in the marquee, open-mic opportunities in the blackboard tent, more workshops in the woolshed and jamming everywhere!
The evening brings the bluegrass concert in the marquee, with some old favourites and some exciting bands new to Wirrina. It concludes with the Supper Club unplugged, but you can jam into the wee hours under the verandah.
Sunday morning—after at least one coffee—take yourself over to the marquee and make amends for your sins the night before with some soothing Gospel singing led by Rev Rowdy and friends. Then it’s more workshops, a great line-up of performances in the marquee, and jamming. (There’s always jamming at Wirrina!)
Food, coffee and other beverages will be available to purchase at the kiosk.
The line-up includes Bluegrass—Made in Taiwan, The Cherry Pickers, The Borderers, Blackwater and Bluegrass Junction. Full program details are available on the festival website.
Go for a day or the whole weekend. Book your festival tickets online via the Humanitix website.
For those wanting to stay onsite at the Wirrina Cove Holiday Park, accommodation must be booked separately.
