South Australian author Victoria Purman will talk about her new book, The Nurses' War, at the Victor Harbor library on Friday 6 May.
It has been described as an extraordinary story of grit, love and loss, based on the true history and real experiences of Australian nurses in World War 1.
The story centres around Sister Cora Barker, who travels to England in 1915 to set up a hospital that is also a little piece of home for recuperating Australian soldiers.
It also features quiet English volunteer Jessie Chester, who falls in love with one of the injured diggers.
The two women are overwhelmed with the task they face, but their hearts and lives are also at risk with the world at war.
The nurses’ war is a battle against despair and death, fought with science and love rather than mustard gas and fear - but can they possibly win it? And what will be the cost?
Victoria Purman is a best-selling author of historical romances who has set one of her books in Victor Harbor.
South Seas Books and Trading, Port Elliot, will attend to sell Victoria's book collection.
This free event will start at 6pm. Register to attend via Eventbrite.
