Breakers U15 Girls have their first loss of the seasonKayte O'Donnell in the game against Adelaide University

The Southern Breakers U15 girls had a tough day on Sunday, losing 4-1 against Adelaide University.

Several key absences and only one counted against the girls who until the weekend had not yet conceded a goal this season.

The girls started strongly, showing some of the good passing they’ve been working on so far this season.

The Breakers scored the first goal of the match with some great teamwork from Kayte O’Donnell and Abby Ellis who delivered the ball to Estelle Dybala for a perfectly timed shot.

Sophia Moore and Hannah Rowlands combined well to stop the University forwards at the other end and the game continued fairly evenly. A drinks break was called during a run of corners for Uni.

When the game resumed the Uni stepped up their pressure and quickly evened up the score.

Shortly after they surged forward again, drawing goalie Lucy Boundey out of her goal. She raced back to try and beat the forward the ball. Some deft heel work from Uni kept the ball from going out, but Boundey pounced before she could get a shot away.

After half-time the warm weather and lack of rest opportunities for the Breakers started to show.

Lokke ‘The Blocker’ Rennerts stepped up in defence saving several goals with her desperate efforts, but the girls quickly found themselves 2-1 and then 3-1 down.

When Boundey was drawn out again during another one-on-one battle the score became 4-1.

After Hannah Rowlands jarred her knee, Zara Boundey subbed back on, and coach O’Donnell was left without any opportunity to give the remaining players a break.

At the other end of the pitch Alana Anderson and Sophie Andrews showed real tenacity and kept battling to try and create scoring chances. Zoe Warren kept trying hard all game in the midfield but in the end, it wasn’t the girls’ day.

Next week the girls are at home against Adelaide Cobras, a team they’ve never played before. Kick-off at 10.30am at Port Elliot’s Breaker Park.
