Are you living with a disability?
Are you a friend, carer or supporter of someone with disabilities?
Do you work or volunteer in the disability sector?
Or are you just looking for a fun, informative day out?
You’re welcome to attend a free community event to mark the 2019 International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD), being held by the City of Onkaparinga on Saturday 30 November.
Being held from 1pm-8pm at South Adelaide Football Club, the event aims to celebrate and recognise the contributions people with disabilities make to our community.
During the afternoon, there will be workshops, guest speakers, face painting, henna art, massage and art therapies and a host of exhibitors who either live with a disability or support those who do.
From 5.30pm to 6.30pm there will be a light dinner served (bookings required) and following that, live entertainment from the Sisters of Abundance, Shedtastics and Claire Funnell.
The Sisters of Abundance is a southern suburbs/Onkaparinga-based community women’s choir.
The Shedtastics is a singing group comprising a spirited bunch of locals all living with brain injuries, who formed after attending the council’s Shed Programs.
Claire Funnell is a local resident who lives with Multiple Sclerosis and acquired brain injury. She has a talent for patchwork, quilting and recorder.
Claire attends City of Onkaparinga’s Shed Program and Dinner Club, and is also a member of Celtic Connections which play music together weekly at Mick O’Shea's.
The expo is being facilitated by the council and its Regional Disability Network.
Hot topics of discussion during the day will include housing, future opportunities, support for families, health and wellbeing and maintaining independence.
South Adelaide Football Club is located at 1 Lovelock Drive, Noarlunga.
According to organisers it's not too late to book in for dinner - phone 8384 0661.
