Bridgewater secure first win of 2019/20 HCA seasonJustin Summerill's 63 not out steered Bridgewater to their first win of the 2019/20 HCA season with a seven-wicket victory over Stirling.

ridgewater have won their first game of the season with a seven-wicket victory over Stirling in round two action of the Hills Cricket Association (HCA) at Stirling Oval. Stirling won the toss and decided to bat first and Ben Zampa continued his good early season form with 36 from 49 balls (3 x 4’s, 3 x 6’s). He was ably supported by skipper Jack Pick (36) as this pair added 41 for the second wicket as the Eagles got themselves into a good position at 1/78. From there on however, Bridgewater turned the screws and restricted the home side to 8/134 from their 40 overs. Luke Hoyle (3/21), Justin Summerill (2/25) and Rhys Jordan (2/37) were the chief wicket takers for the Raiders. Stirling started well with young seamer Myles Collins (2/11 from 8) removing Charlie Birnie and Jackson Hooper cheaply before the experienced duo of Summerill and Hoyle came together to take Bridgewater in sight of victory. Hoyle made 38 (1 x 4’s , 3 x 6’s) while Summerill batted through the innings to finish on 63 not out (6 x 4’s) as the visitors knocked off the runs with four overs to spare.

Kangarilla had a huge 142-run win over reigning premier Aldgate at Aldgate Oval, sending a warning to the competition that ‘Kangies’ will be a team to watch in 2019/20. The visitors won the toss and set about putting a large total on the board. New recruit Cole Davy (67), Steve Featherstone (64), Matthew Bertelsmeier (45) and skipper Che Martinsen (44) were all amongst the runs as Kangarilla posted an imposing total of 5/254. Aldgate skipper Jake Turnbull (2/38) and young off-spinner Henry Brasher (2/43) were the multiple wicket takers for Aldgate. The home sides run chase never got going with opener Josh Callaghan (21) the only batsman to pass 20 as the reigning premier was rolled for just 112 in the 37th over. Jack Evans (3/21), Troy Martinsen (2/17) and Che Martinsen (2/27) were the chief destroyers for a triumphant Kangarilla outfit.

Flagstaff Hill hosted Mount Lofty in a match ultimately decided by the weather. Mount Lofty were making their first appearance for the season after a first round bye and after being sent in the Redcaps were in trouble at 3/47. Josh Healey made a swift 21 from 23 balls while James Kittel-Neill was the mainstay of the innings making a fine 44 (55 balls). There wasn’t much resistance after that with the last seven wickets falling for just 23 runs with Mount Lofty bowled out in the 35th over for just 114. Jacob Lemon bowled a fine eight-over spell snaring 4/21 and he was well supported by skipper Kyle Petty (2/10) and Sam Tonkin (2/20). Petty (41), Stephen Wheatland (34) and Matt Emes (21) pushed the Falcons into a winning position at 2/102 before three quick wickets reduced them to 5/106 but only needing nine runs for victory with seven overs remaining before the rain intervened and the match was abandoned with the teams sharing the points.
