Building the homes of tomorrow

A campaign to increase awareness and uptake of sustainable and resilient housing has been launched by four South Australian councils, including City of Onkaparinga and Alexandrina.

The Homes for Tomorrow campaign uses video case studies and accessible resources to provide residents, homebuyers, and developers relevant knowledge and tools.

Through community engagement it aims to boost informed, sustainable housing choices.

Port Elliot resident Ian is one of the people who discusses his real world experience with building sustainably.

He worked with his builder to achieve an energy efficient home, reducing the need for air conditioning and heating and therefore saving on energy bills.

"There is no heating and cooling needed in my home, the first year my energy bill was $30 for the year."

The Homes for Tomorrow website includes fact sheets, checklists and useful links that aim to cut down the overwhelming nature of the building process by giving confidence to those wanting the best outcome in building their homes.

Homes for Tomorrow is an initiative of Mount Barker Council, Light Regional Council, City of Onkaparinga and Alexandrina Council.
