Butterflies aren’t just beautiful, they’re also valuable pollinators for our gardens and an indicator of a healthy environment.
If you would like to learn more about our local butterfly species and how to attract them to your garden, Mike Moore from Butterfly Conservation SA will be giving a talk in Strathalbyn this Wednesday at 7pm.
Everyone is welcome at the event which will be held at the Strathalbyn Natural Resource Centre (corner of Donald and Catherine Streets, Strathalbyn).
Come and learn about the many South Australian butterfly species, including the Dingy Swallowtail, Meadow Argus, the Australian Painted Lady and the sort of plants that will bring them to your garden.
The event is free but local butterfly-loving garden plants will be available for purchase for $2.50 each (cash only) so you may want to bring some cash with you
Butterfly Conservation SA aims to conserve butterflies and moths and promote the sound management of areas of ecological significance, particularly remnant native vegetation.
Butterfly habitat has been lost as people have moved away from traditional country gardens with many flowering plants to planting larger lawn areas and non-nectar producing plants.
To RSVP for the talk contact the Centre’s Community Engagement Officer, Jacqui Wilson at [email protected] or at 0400 036 843.
