State Government changes to its funding boundaries for community transport took effect from yesterday, 1 September, under the Department of Human Services' (DHS) new Community Transport SA program.
This saw the Southern Communities Transport Scheme (SCOTS) become the sole provider of community transport services in Alexandrina.
Alexandrina Council is calling for volunteers with a few hours to spare to help meet community transport needs in Strathalbyn and Goolwa.
SCOTS is a community passenger network that provides door-to-door pre-booked transport for people who need help to get around.
Volunteers assist with driving and organising trips, both locally and to the Adelaide area.
Transport can be for medical appointments, attending social activities or groups, shopping, or visiting family and friends.
Volunteer drivers gain a Volunteer Driving Accreditation and support people, young and old, with transport opportunities.
They must hold a valid driver’s licence and be good drivers, holding the values of empathy and community care.
The service provides modern, air conditioned vehicles as well as training for all volunteers.
SCOTS is an initiative of the City of Victor Harbor and Alexandrina Council with funding from the federal Department of Health and Aged Care, and the state government Department of Human Services.
