Call for environmental volunteers

People who enjoy the natural environment and who have some time to spare have been asked to consider becoming environmental volunteers.

The City of Victor Harbor is looking for volunteers to help with a range of environmental projects and initiatives.

Those who enjoy gardening and working outdoors may be able to assist the council's efforts to conserve and maintain the local natural environment.

The council says volunteering in the natural environment has many benefits, including connecting with like-minded people; gaining experience and learning new skills; and discovering more about local flora and fauna.

Volunteers also have the opportunity to contribute to enhancing local biodiversity.

Current projects are conducted among some of the south coast’s natural bushland reserves, river environments, and stunning coastline.

Some of the tasks may include:

  • Stabilising sand dunes by establishing local plants along the coastline.
  • Increasing native vegetation by planting local plant species.
  • Watering young plants through the summer months.
  • Improving habitat for local fauna by removing weedy plants.
  • Providing input to signage.
  • Participating in group activities such as nature walks.

For more information about becoming a volunteer, visit the council’s volunteering webpage.
