Call for foreshore pedestrian crossing in Victor HarborThe road between Warland Reserve and the foreshore

Does Victor Harbor need a pedestrian crossing from Warland Reserve across to the foreshore area around the start of the Granite Island causeway?

Victor Harbor Mayor Moira Jenkins says she will raise the issue at Monday’s council meeting and ask for the installation of a crossing to be investigated.

In a social media post this week Mayor Jenkins said, “This can be a dangerous road to cross when it is busy.”

“We have a children's playground (George Fisher Playground), the Horse Drawn Tram, Causeway Cafe, a bus/coach parking area opposite the playground, then around the corner opposite the Hotel Victor, we have the Victor Harbor Beachside Markets and a major car park.”

“At Mondays Council meeting I will be asking the City of Victor Harbor to investigate placing a safe pedestrian crossing in these areas, and to liaise with the State Government about any grants available to help. We really need to improve safety in this very busy road.”

Former councillor David Hall responded to her post saying that the issue had been discussed 10 years ago and it wasn’t supported by the Department of Transport.

He supported Mayor, calling the situation “ridiculous and dangerous” and saying a pedestrian activated traffic light crossing was needed, with a 25km speed limit either side.

Independent candidate for Finniss, Lou Nicolson, also took up the issue, saying she would support the project if elected.
