Can you help this family find a new home?
While the current real-estate boom on the Fleurieu has been great news for some, for many it has meant they’ve been told to leave their rental homes so they can be sold.
They've then found it almost impossible to find somewhere to live in their own community and face having to move far away from family, friends and support networks and their children's current schools.
Kirsty is a mother of four who has been searching without luck for a new home since being told to vacate her home in September.
Shadow Housing Minister Nat Cook is trying to help her and posted this heartfelt call for help on her Facebook page yesterday.
“No family should be homeless.”
“Kirsty has a great rental history, four kids under 13 years of age, all going back to school in a week.
“Does anyone have a rental property available that’s within about 15 minutes drive from Willunga?
“This is Kirsty’s story…
“Packed to the rafters with nowhere to go.
After searching practically full-time for a rental since September last year when we were given notice to vacate our rental after five years tenancy and unable to secure a rental.
We have experienced homelessness now since November 2020.
With four children two with special needs and one about to start her first year of high school.
I’ve been lucky to have been able to rely on friends for house-sits while they were on holidays while I continued to apply and inspect multitudes of rentals.
At last count I was up to 130 properties that I’d applied for.
I’ve even tried to enter the housing market but my deposit doesn't allow much scope and the one house I thought would be a home for us was not healthy or structurally safe so I had to pull out of the contract.
I need a home.
I can't do this anymore.
I feel trapped in this situation with no answers in sight and my kids can't either.
It feels like there is no end to this challenge.
We, as a family faced a lot of challenges, leaving domestic violence and trying to heal, to a diagnosis of Breast cancer that I'm still in the first years of remission for.
I am needing a break and a secure tidy safe place for my children so we can have life settle down once more.”
