A Year 12 dinner, scout celebrations and sporting fixtures have all been cancelled as local organisations react to new Covid-19 restrictions.
The new measures came into effect at midnight last night. They are aimed at containing the Parafield cluster and will be in place for at least two weeks.
Investigator College at Victor Harbor has cancelled the Year 12 farewell dinner that was to be held at Serafinos on Thursday evening. The school has also cancelled all Christmas concerts and the Year 6 graduation ceremony.
Resthaven and Southern Cross Care's aged care homes at Port Elliot, Goolwa and McCracken have implemented temporary bans on visitors and directed their staff to wear surgical masks. Other aged care sites are restricting the number of visitors to two per day, as per the State Government’s directions.
A planned celebration of 110 years of Scouts on the Fleurieu has also been cancelled. Organisers plan to set a date to celebrate 111 years in 2021 instead.
The Macclesfield Strawberry Festival planned for this coming weekend has also been cancelled.
All community sports fixtures and training are cancelled under the new directions. This has meant the suspension of the Seaford Summer 7s soccer competition, and cancellation of local cricket and basketball training and fixtures.
The Noarlunga and Districts Junior Soccer Association 2021 Championships try-outs have been cancelled and parents asked to email [email protected] to register their interest instead.
The Goolwa RSL has announced that it will be closed until further notice, in line with Premier Marshall’s advice for vulnerable people to stay home, where possible.
The Fleurieu Aquatic Centre is closed for two weeks. All memberships have been automatically suspended and members will not be charged for this time.
All gyms across the state have been required to close for two weeks.
Noarlunga Leisure Centre (including the Noarlunga Pool) is also closed.
All indoor fitness classes at the City of Onkaparinga Community Centres have been cancelled.
Local pubs, restaurants and clubs and cinemas will have to adhere to the restriction of one person per four square metres. Some are already reverting to two sittings per mealtime, where possible, to serve as many diners as possible.
The Port Elliot Market has been cancelled until further notice.
GENERAL COVID INFORMATION AND LINKS
There have been five new cases of COVID-19 today in people aged in their teens through to their 50s, taking South Australia’s total number of cases to 549.
Parafield Cluster update:
• Four of today’s cases are linked to the Parafield cluster while one case is still being interviewed
• One case remains hospitalised in a stable condition
• All remaining positive cases are in a medi-hotel
• There are 14 people waiting test results as they are suspected cases
• As of midday today, the total number of cases linked to the cluster is 20 people
Symptoms of COVID-19 can include a runny nose, scratchy throat, fever and loss of taste or smell.
Local testing sites have experienced heavy demand today with people reportedly turned away from the Aldinga drive through site this morning.
