Police are investigating after a stolen car went up in flames at Morphett Vale last night.

Police and fire crews responded to reports of a car fire in Martin Road, Morphett Vale just after 1am on Tuesday 5 September.

One of the occupants of the car attempted to put out the fire with a nearby garden hose but was unsuccessful and ran off before help arrived.

Fire crews quickly extinguished the blaze, however, the car was completely burnt out.

Inquiries revealed the black Honda station wagon had been stolen overnight from the driveway of a Christie Downs home.

Crime scene investigators attended and examined the scene.
