Winter is coming and so is the Whalefest, a month-long festival celebrating the arrival of Southern Right Whales to the Fleurieu Peninsula.
June will see more than 25 events in and around Victor Harbor, offering the opportunity to learn about marine conservation and participate in a range of educational and cultural experiences.
They include walking tours, guided scuba dives, First Nations experiences, art exhibitions, films and workshops.
Train to be a whale spotter, take a virtual reality experience of marine life on the Great Southern Reef at the SA Whale Centre, or see the Whale Nation documentary at the Victa Cinema.
While the festival kicks off on Saturday 1 June, the whale season officially begins with a Welcoming the Whales and smoking ceremony at the amphitheatre at Soldiers Memorial Gardens on Sunday 9 June.
There will also be a Winter Whale Fest Expo on Warland Reserve and Railway Plaza on Saturday 8 June from 9am to 3pm with talks, workshops, music, local artists, and kids’ activities.
