Celebrate the beauty of a world-class islandRemarkable Rock on Kangaroo Island.

It has been recognised as one of the top 10 places in the world to visit this year and is internationally revered as a unique haven.

South Australia’s jewel in the crown, Kangaroo Island, is being celebrated by National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) as Park of the Month for September.

Located off the south coast of Fleurieu Peninsula, the island’s spectacular coastline, pristine beaches and bushland, and abundance of wildlife, make it one of the world’s great nature-based destinations.

The New York Times earlier this year ranked Kangaroo Island the 7th best place to visit in 2023.

NPWS Kangaroo Island Senior Ranger Reece Boulden has worked and lived on the island for 11 years.

He says that while that most people knew about Flinders Chase National Park and Seal Bay, there are many other great parks on the Island.

“During September we’d love for you join us check out and experience our Kangaroo Island national parks,” he says.

“Spring is an amazing time of the year to visit Kangaroo Island. As the grey skies of winter give way to sunny spring days, there is new life everywhere.

“Wildflowers are in bloom and newborn wildlife can be seen. With so much to see and do in our national parks, make sure you plan to spend a few days so you can explore the whole island.”

Throughout September, rangers are hosting a variety of Park of the Month activities, including:

  • An exclusive special tour of Seal Bay beach at dawn.
  • Film screening of Sea Lions: Life by a Whisker at Kingscote High School.
  • Ranger-guided Lashmar Lagoon discovery walk at Lashmar Conservation Park.
  • Tadpole Cove ‘Little Artists’ Day’ in Cape Gantheaume Conservation Park.
  • Ranger-guided bird watching walks in Flinders Chase National Park and Cape Gantheaume Conservation Park.
  • Glossy black cockatoo census counts in the Cape Gantheaume and Baudin conservation parks.
  • Ranger-guided seal tours at Admirals Arch in Flinders Chase National Park.
