Celebrating eucalypts at Currency Creek

Currency Creek Arboretum will hold open days this weekend as part of National Eucalypt Day celebrations.

The open days on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 April will offer free one hour and extended two hour guided tours by eucalypt expert and arboretum curator Dean Nicolle.

The arboretum will be open from 9am to 4.30pm; the tours will be offered twice daily at 10am and 2pm.

Currency Creek Arboretum contains the largest diversity of eucalypt species growing on one site anywhere in the world, with over 900 species and over 10,000 individual trees planted over 32 hectares.

It is located on Alexandrina Road, about 1.5 km north of Currency Creek; follow the signs from Adelaide Place.

There will be eucalypt book sales and eucalypt seedling sales of rare and unusual species at the open days.

More open days will be held in the spring, on the first weekend in October.

Those taking a tour are advised to wear a hat and good walking shoes.

Information on National Eucalypt Day can be found on the Eucalypt Australia website.
