South Australia celebrates its past during the whole month of May with the SA History Festival.
Many events and activities will be held across the Fleurieu, but the Yankalilla district will host a festival within a festival, with a smorgasbord of celebration of the Fleurieu Coast.
The Fleurieu Coast will showcase more than 40 events to celebrate the SA History Festival and local history gurus from the Yankalilla and District Historical Society Inc have organised a full list of memorable historical experiences.
It all kicks off with a free launch event on Sunday 1 May at the Myponga Hall, from 11am to 3pm.
A display in the hall will celebrate the local dairy industry and there will be local produce on offer.
After a Welcome to Country, retired dairy farmer and former mayor Peter Whitford will give a talk and there will be music by Indigenous composer Cheryl van Wageningen.
Other feature events of the Fleurieu Coast history festival include a rededication of the WWI Living Avenue of Honour in Normanville on Sunday 15 May.
On Saturday 21 May Keith Conlon will present Horrible Histories of Adelaide at the Normanville Hotel, with mirth, musical intervention, and audience involvement.
A display and guided walk around Second Valley Farm will be offered on Sunday 22 May to celebrate William Randall, JP, chairman of the Rapid Bay Council and captain of the Finniss Vale Volunteer Rifles.
Inman Valley, Delamere, Myponga, Normanville and Yankalilla will host many more events featuring walk, talks and displays of local history throughout the month.
Find the full program of events on the District Council of Yankalilla website.
