One hundred women clad in just their black underwear celebrated women of all shapes and sizes at an event under tipis in McLaren Vale last week.
The event, organised by She Is Seen Movement, was held at TIPI Lane and featured music from some of SA’s best female musicians, meditations, a dance workshop and tea from Wildfire Organic Tea.
The afternoon enjoyment culminated in a mass photo shoot on dusk.
Women travelled from throughout the Fleurieu Peninsula, Adelaide Hills and Adelaide suburbs.
She Is Seen Movement founder Libby Tozer says TIPI Lane provided a different backdrop and atmosphere compared to the mass photo shoots on the beach.
“There was a real feeling of community, healing and support among the women as they danced and gathered beneath the tipis to celebrate the fact that women come in all shapes and sizes,” she says.
“I am very grateful for the support from TIPI Lane, Alexandrina Council and Country Arts SA, along with a team of dedicated volunteers who helped make this happen.
“Our shoots and events are about normalising normal and showing that we should be proud of the way we look and feel good in our skin.
“Having personal confidence is important to underpin quality decision-making. We tend to make poorer decisions if we don’t feel confident in ourselves, and I want to change that.”
A raffle at the event was used to raise funds for Treasure Boxes SA and Catherine House Adelaide.
Planning is underway for the next mass photo shoot event, and also a change in direction for She Is Seen.
“Our new podcasts focusing on women’s issues, including many taboo subjects, are attracting a lot of interest and our online magazine is due for launch soon,” Libby says.
“I’m excited about further highlighting the importance of normalising normal women’s bodies in the media and shifting shame by sharing real stories.”
