The CFS is sending additional resources to Kangaroo Island to help local crews mop up the multiple fires started by lightning on Friday night.

The lightning strikes started grass fires at Kingscote, Cassini, Menzies, MacGillivray and Seal Bay.

Gusty winds are expected this morning with possible further lighting strikes.

Conditions will ease in the afternoon.

The CFS responded to a number of fires on the Island on Friday night, with assistance from National Parks fire crews.

The CFS says while the fires are not currently presenting a threat to property, residents should consider their bushfire survival plan and constantly monitor conditions. If your home is threatened by fire ring 000 immediately.

For updates residents should visit the CFS website (www.cfs.sa.gov.au) or phone the Information Hotline on 1800 362 361.

Residents should check and follow your Bushfire Survival Plan and decide what they will do if the situation changes.

The CFS advises residents to look and listen for information on television, radio, internet, mobile phones and by speaking with neighbours.
