Several Fleurieu CFS Units are on the hunt for new members with the Fire Danger Season due to officially start tomorrow for most of the Fleurieu and Kangaroo Island.

The Yankalilla CFS Unit is in need of firefighters, catering officers, communications operators and operational support members.

Volunteers would attend or support others at grass and scrub fires, road crash rescues, storm events, structure fires and medical assists.

To find out more about the Yankalilla CFS message their Facebook page or email [email protected].

The Lower Inman Valley CFS also needs new members to replace several who recently retired.

The brigade is asking residents of Encounter Bay, Lower Inman Valley, Back Valley or Inman Valley to consider volunteering. For more information contact 0438 514 482.

With spring temperatures cooler than average and high rainfalls, many of the paddocks around the Fleurieu remain much greener than usual for this time of year.

While the bushfire risk is considered to be below that of recent years the CFS warns that the increased vegetation growth brings its own concern.

Short periods of hot and windy weather can quickly raise the fire risk in areas of overgrown vegetation.

Property owners are being urged to clean up their block and, to where regrowth has occurred, to cut again.

Once the Fire Danger Season has commenced burn offs and burning of rubbish is only permitted with a Schedule 9 permit from a local council.
