Christies Beach open their season with an upset win over Flagstaff Hill in the Southern Football League Women's competition

The Southern Football League (SFL) ‘A’ Grade Women’s competition got underway today with several big wins in round one. The closest match was between reigning premier Flagstaff Hill and Christies Beach, with ‘Christies’ winning by 23 points. The win was set up by an excellent first term where they kicked three goals to none. The rest of the game was tight with Christies Beach running out winners 4.5 (29) to 1.0 (6). Cadence Bryowsky kicked two goals for Christies Beach, while Emma Hoppo was the sole goalkicker for Flagstaff Hill. 


Port Noarlunga started their season with a bang, courtesy of a whopping 202-point victory against Hackham. The Cockle Divers led by 60 points at quarter time, 92 points at halftime, and 145 points at the last change, before winning 30.22 (202) to 0.0 (0). Port Noarlunga had 13 different goalkickers with Jolande Wilson (6), Jessika O’Hanlon (5), and Nikki Parker (5) leading the way. 


Cove Cobras defeated newcomers Noarlunga by 97 points to open their 2023 season at Old Noarlunga today. The win was set up by a six goal to zero first term which saw the Cobras lead by 40 points at the first change. A further eight goals in the last three quarters saw Cove win 14.13 (97) to 0.0 (0). Makayla Brown kicked four goals for the Cobras. Cally Swalue (3), Jemima Buss (2), and Alesia Le Duff (2) were the other multiple goalkickers for Cove.


Reynella also had a big win as they defeated Aldinga by 191 points at Aldinga. The Wine Flies had eight different goalkickers as they won 28.23 (191) to 0.0 (0). Georgia Scholes was a star up forward for Reynella with seven goals, and she was well supported by Sarah Bourn (4), Hayley Nicolle (4), Shanique West (3), and Caitlin Williams (3).
