Christies & Porties women play out top-of-the-table thriller in the Southern Football League

In one of the games of the season, Christies Beach moved back to the top of the  Southern Football League (SFL) ‘A’ Grade Women’s ladder after defeating Port Noarlunga in a thriller by just four points. Less than a goal separated the sides at the end of each quarter before ‘Christies’ prevailed 6.3 (39) to 5.5 (35). Neriah Mills kicked three goals for Christies Beach, while teammate Chelsea Salvemini kicked two. Port Noarlunga had all individual goalkickers. Best players for the Saints included Tallara Power, Paige Simmons, Salvemini, Mills and Naomi Jones. Best for ‘Porties’ were Jolie Malinowski, Bree Chapman, Lorelai Jeisman, Amber O’Hanlon, Siobhan I’Dell.


Flagstaff Hill kept their finals hopes alive with a big 200-point win against Hackham on Sunday. The Falcons led by 48 points at quarter time, 101 points at halftime, and 148 points at the last change, before winning 30.20 (200) to 0.0 (0). ‘Flaggies’ had 11 different goalkickers with Emily Brockhurst kicking a whopping 13 majors, giving her 42 for the season. Rachel Crockart and Jasmine Partridge chimed in with three goals each for the reigning premiers. Best players for Flagstaff Hill included Elizabeth Johnson, Brockhurst, Chloe Meyers, Brooke Watson and Emma Hodgson. Hackham’s best included Tiarna Power, Claire Wheeler and Krista Mitchell.


Noarlunga won for the third time in their inaugural season after defeating Aldinga by 79 points. The Shoes led by 41 points at halftime, before kicking a further six goals in the second half to win 12.9 (81) to 0.2 (2). Sarah Stanbury (3), Shannon Astley (2) and Febi Mansell (2) were the multiple goalkickers for Noarlunga, while their best players were Megan Weetra, Stanbury, Shaylee Hobbs, Elyshiah Forrest and Colette Barnard. Best players for the Sharks included Tayla Mousley, Nikki Duggan and Olivia Cumming. 


Reynella kept the pressure on for a top-two spot with a comfortable 53-point win against Cove on Sunday at Hallett Cove. The Wine Flies put the game to bed in the first half as they took a convincing 50-point lead to the long break. The second half was a real slog with no goals scored as Reynella ran out winners 7.14 (56) to 0.3 (3). Shanique West was the leading goalkicker for the Wine Flies with two majors. Reynella was best served by Zannah Loxton, Jessica Redigolo, Anja Bancevic, Caitlin Walter and Casey Northcott. The Cobras’ best were Ashleigh Need, Skye Willcocks, Lauren Kenny, Aidene Parr and Lissa Willcocks.
