Christmas cancellations continue

The Goolwa and Port Elliot Christmas festivities have followed Strathalbyn as casualties of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Alexandrina Mayor Keith Parkes has released a statement explaining the decision.

“Due to the changes brought about by the pandemic, we need to make informed decisions to ensure large community gatherings remain COVID-19 safe in this ever changing environment.

“In the best interest of everyone in the Alexandrina community, and together with event organisers, we have made the timely decision not to hold our Christmas festive events this year; Christmas Where the Angas Flows Christmas Carols and Pageant, Goolwa Christmas Festival and Pageant, and Carols in the Park at Port Elliot.

“Many of us look forward to these traditions and events as the start of celebrations for the holiday season, however as a community we must adjust to a new normal with restrictions on social distancing, limits on group gatherings and regular hand sanitising as part of our daily lives.

“I am excited to hear that many ideas have already been generated to look at new and creative ways for us to celebrate the festive season in other ways this year.

“Stay safe and I warmly look forward to welcoming in the festive season in the Alexandrina region with you all soon albeit in a different format. Council’s website will be updated as details come to hand.
