The Fleurieu Regional Waste Authority, which serves the Alexandrina, Victor Harbor, Yankalilla and Kangaroo Island council areas, will change its kerbside collection schedule over Christmas and January.
Collection of general waste – blue or red lid bins – will change from fortnightly to weekly over the summer holiday period, starting Monday 23 December and ending Friday 31 January.
Collection of recycling and green waste will remain fortnightly.
There will be no kerbside collections on Christmas Day 2019 – all kerbside collections in this week will be one day later from Christmas Day.
So collection scheduled for Wednesday, 25 December will happen on Thursday; the usual Thursday collection will happen on Friday; and the usual Friday collection will happen on Saturday.
All other collections will take place on the usual day, both on Kangaroo Island and the mainland.
Waste and recycling depots will be open during the festive season, but will close early at 1pm on Tuesday 24 and 31 December and will be closed on 25 and 26 December 2019, as well as 1 January 2020.
To check your bin collection night visit the Fleurieu Regional Waste Authority website and type in your street name.
In the Onkaparinga council area, waste and recycling collection will continue as normal on all public holidays except Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. On these two days and the remaining days of those weeks, collections will occur a day later than the usual collection day.
However, this afternoon (20 December), the City of Onkaparinga announced that due to the heatwave, approximately half the bins scheduled for pick up today would need to be collected tomorrow (Saturday 21 December).
If your bin has not been collected please leave your bin out this evening. There's no need to report a missed bin collection.
The council's waste collection team was out on the road early to beat the heat, but the excessive temperatures have caused some issues with the air-conditioning in truck cabins. According to the council, the health and safety of its team is paramount so it has stopped collections today and will pick up the remaining bins tomorrow.
Bins in the following suburbs will be emptied on Saturday 21 December:
The council apologises for any inconvenience.
