Two traditional staples of the Victor Harbor community will come together to celebrate the Christmas season in music and song next weekend.

The South Coast Choral and Arts Society Choral Group will present a fun and heart warming repertoire of Christmas music, featuring the Victor Harbor City Band. 

Last year’s concert sold out, so by popular demand there are two opportunities to sing in the season, on Saturday 30 November and Sunday 1 December at 2pm at the Victor Harbor Town Hall, in Coral Street.

The varied program includes Christmas ballads, traditional songs, plus rock and jazz from the almost 40-strong choir. 

Soloist Lily Van Rhoda features on both days, while dancers Sophie Hollingworth and Caitlin Wragg will perform the dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy from The Nutcracker Suite on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

Concert coordinator Graeme Butler says a magical piano duet will form a very special part of the program, which concludes with the traditional Oh Holy Night and the old favourite Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.

The choral group has been bringing music to the south coast since 1950, while the brass band was established more than 100 years ago.

Both perform regularly throughout the year, bringing joy through music to community events.

Concert tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for children under 12. They are available at the door, but as the annual concerts are enormously popular it may pay to get them in advance from Swan’s Pharmacy in Victoria Street, Victor Harbor.
