Those interested in marine conservation can become intertidal volunteers and contribute to scientific monitoring of the intertidal reefs along the Fleurieu coastline.
The Reef Watch Intertidal Monitoring Program will hold a training session at the Aldinga Reef on Saturday 27 February from 11.30am to 1.30pm.
Volunteers will learn about methodology and species ID and complete a few surveys at the same time under the watchful eye of the facilitator.
Survey kits will be provided at the training and participants should be sun smart, wear enclosed shoes that can get wet and take a water bottle.
Reef Watch is a multi-award winning citizen science program where volunteers work with marine scientists to gather quality information that contributes to management of the marine environment.
Recreational divers and other volunteers gather data about the health of the oceans to develop community awareness about the state of marine ecosystems and trigger action for their protection.
Intertidal volunteers also contribute to the growing body of information being used for the better management of human impacts on Australia's temperate reefs.
The Conservation Council of SA and Green Adelaide support the event. It costs $3.20 to attend - register via Eventbrite.
