Cittaslow at the WharfGoolwa's Signal Point

Cittaslow Goolwa present its free community 'At The Wharf' event on the Signal Point deck and lawns on Friday 31 January.

The event includes plenty of delicious food from Big Mahalo Hot Dogs, Urban Edibles and Primal Bliss and runs from 5pm to 8pm.

There will be wine from Langhorne Creek and Currency Creek, beer and soft drinks and top local band River Rats providing the music.

Feel free to take chairs, rugs, picnics and your dancing shoes, but no BYO alcohol to comply with Cittaslow licencing arrangements.

At the Wharf will feature a silent auction and raffle to raise funds for the fire affected community and wildlife of Kangaroo island.

Goolwa artists, crafts people and businesses have generously donated fabulous prizes for the event.

Goolwa became the first Australian Cittaslow town in 2007 and the first non-European town to be accepted as a member of the international network of towns where quality of life is important.

Cittaslow means taking time out to think about what we should be doing and how we should be doing it. It's about considering and celebrating our community identity, environment and heritage and promoting sustainability, creativity and local production.

Originating in Italy in the 1980s, Cittaslow began as a ’slow food’ movement in reaction to the spread of generic fast food.

It encourages regions to identify and use local food and produce and allow time to enjoy eating with family and friends. Over 50 countries, including Australia now embrace this philosophy.

It’s about supporting local producers and celebrating regional history and traditions.
