Cobras strike for first win in the Southern Football Women's competition

After having the bye in round one, Cove Cobras hit the park last Friday night and they had a comfortable 50-point win against Hackham during round two action in the Southern Football League Women’s (SFLW) competition. After a tight opening quarter where the Cobras led by just one point, they kicked eight goals to two after the first change to win 9.14 (68) to 3.0 (18). Jaime Norup and Emily Risitano kicked three goals each for Cove, while Amie Veneman, Dakota Dwyer and Charlotte Carter kicked the goals for the Hawks. Cove were best served by Jaymie Savaidis, Norup, Alesia LeDuff, Angelique Dean, Jemima Buss and Breanna Stoldt. Best players for Hackham included Alana Browne, Dakota Dwyer and Claire Wheeler.


Reigning premier Reynella maintained top position on the ladder following their 64-point win against Ironbank Cherry Gardens at Reynella yesterday. The Wine Flies led by 14 points at quarter time, 36 points at halftime, and 42 points at the last change, before running out winners 9.10 (64) to 0.0 (0). Jaya Shreeve, Shanique West (3 goals), Zannah Loxton, Mia Brennan, Sarah Bourn (4 goals) and Claire Varnham-Harrison were named best for Reynella. Ironbank Cherry Gardens were best served by Cassandra Wilson, Olivia Walker-Obushak, Estelle McPhee, Georgia Kempster, Tahlia Ward and Rebecca Watson.


Flagstaff Hill won their first game of the season with a huge 161-point win against Noarlunga. ‘Flaggies’ led by 64 points at halftime, before kicking 15 unanswered goals in the second half to win 24.18 (162) to 0.1 (1). The Falcons had 11 different goalkickers including Amber Cloughessy (6), skipper Kelsey Rodman (4) and Lily Stevens (2). Flagstaff Hill had plenty of good players including Amelia Morriss, Cloughessy, Kyah Smith, Rachel Crockart, Brooke Watson and Rodman.
