Cobras strike in Southern Football League Women's competition

Cove won their second game of the season after defeating Hackham by 135 points at Hackham Oval on Sunday. The win moved the Cobras into the top-four after five rounds of the Southern Football League Women’s (SFLW) ‘A’ grade competition. The Cobras led by 50 points at halftime and kicked a further 13 goals in the second half to win 20.15 (135) to 0.0 (0). Cove had 12 different goalkickers with Lauren Kenny and Alesia LeDuff kicking three goals each. The Cobras’ best players were Kenny, Jasmine Dietrich, Talia Saler, Rebecca O’Shaughnessy and Ashleigh Need. Olivia Cumming, Bronte McGrail, Caitlin Haire, Carol Karo and Holly Marsh were best for the Hawks.


Reynella remained undefeated after winning their top-of-the-table clash with Flagstaff Hill by 30 points at Reynella on Sunday. Flagstaff Hill led by six points at quarter time, but Reynella were too strong in the other three quarters as they ran out winners 7.9 (51) to 3.3 (21). Georgia Scholes was the best forward on the ground, kicking four goals for the Wine Flies. Scholes was joined in the best players by Morgan Blackwell, Zannah Loxton, Anja Bancevic and Grace Doran. Best players for ‘Flaggies’ were Shaylee Dayman, Kelsey Rodman, Rachel Crockart, Jenna Andrews and Alana Baker.


Port Noarlunga consolidated their spot in the top four following their come-from-behind two-point win against Christies Beach at Bice Oval. ‘Christies’ led by 11 points at the last change having kicked the only two goals of the game, but in the last quarter, ‘Porties’ kicked two goals and kept Christies Beach scoreless to win 2.2 (14) to 2.0 (12). Kaiya Ivett and Samantha Lynch kicked Port Noarlunga’s goals, while Neriah Mills and Emily Risitano were the goalkickers for Christies Beach. Lynch, Philippa Worthley, Brittany Pratt, Ivett and Bree Chapman were named best players for the Cockle Divers, while for the Saints, Brina Thompson-Fitzgerald, Isabella Zito, Hannah Clarke, Melanie Koster and Mills were their best.
